Fleet Managers: The Deadline is Approaching

As a fleet manager, you play a crucial role in ensuring the compliance of your vehicles with the National Fleet Database (NFD). With one week to go, the deadline for uploading insurance details to the NFD is fast approaching, set for November 30, 2023. Failure to comply with this requirement may result in penalties and fines.

Why is the NFD Important?

The National Fleet Database is a vital tool in the fight against uninsured driving, which is a significant problem in Ireland. An estimated 10% of vehicles on Irish roads are uninsured, putting legitimate road users at risk. The NFD helps An Garda Síochána identify uninsured vehicles and take appropriate action against their drivers.

What vehicles are covered by the National Fleet Database?

The NFD covers a wide range of vehicles, including:

    • Buses and coaches
    • Vehicles being sold in garages
    • Construction vehicles
    • Delivery vans
    • Transport and logistical operations
    • Hire cars
    • Utility vehicles
    • Service vehicles
    • Vehicles operated by retailers, service providers, food and takeaway delivery operations
    • Vehicles operated by semi-state organizations

How to Upload Your Vehicle Insurance Details to the National Fleet Database

Uploading your vehicle insurance details to the National Fleet Database is a straightforward process. You will need to create an account on the NFD website and then upload the following information:

    • Your fleet owner/motor trader details
    • Your vehicle insurance policy number
    • The registration number of each vehicle
    • The name and address of the policyholder
    • The name and address of the named driver(s)

Industry Sources Backing the NFD

The NFD has been welcomed by industry sources, including the Irish Road Haulage Association (IRHA) and the Construction Industry Federation (CIF). These organizations recognise the importance of the NFD in addressing the issue of uninsured driving and ensuring a safer road environment for all.

Don't Miss the Deadline: Act Now

As a fleet manager, it's crucial to ensure that your vehicles are registered on the NFD before the deadline of November 30, 2023. By complying with this requirement, you are contributing to making Irish roads safer for everyone.
