The countdown for Christmas and New Year’s Eve started some time ago now. People are already contemplating what will be in store for the next year; some are having a bit of fun with horoscopes while others are seriously putting their minds to the possible forthcoming fleet and transport trends (yes, 2017 will soon be upon us!).

While some of the recent political and international events might still have an impact on what is going to happen, there are some trends that have been announced this year and in the recent years that might either stop or continue. We have prepared a small list of 2017 trends. See what you think?

1 - Green vehicles growing

Electric and hybrid vehicle are the future, and increasing experiments are carried out by vehicle manufacturers in order to make traditional vehicles efficient and electric and hybrid more accessible. Ireland, for example, has started providing some help measures. According to first news, SEAI (Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland) is going to provide grants for electric vehicle purchases and the Revenue has extended VRT relief on hybrid vehicles.

2 - Fuel price fluctuations

The political and financial institutions, both national and international, shall soon be reacting to results of the Brexit move and of the Trump presidency. In the past such scenarios have impacted the economy and fuel prices, though sometimes not as much as expected—the value of fuel has changed due to currency fluctuations.

3 - Safety on top

Despite a past lack of consideration toward safety, in recent times there has been closer scrutiny. Increasingly, measures are being taken to reduce collisions and improve legal compliance. Moreover, safety and sustainability, in terms of adopting safer driving styles, is also a green issue, hence the increased stress in this area.

4 - Connected vehicles

Technology has already proved to be a real game-changer for fleets; empowering them with access to myriad data and metrics, helping to direct the important changes and inform decision-making. This trend is going to continue in the next years with more and more connected vehicles.
