Driver shortage in Europe some food for thought

The shortage of drivers in Europe is a complex issue, and there is no simple solution to this problem, which is crippling the haulage and distribution sectors on the Continent.

HGV Ireland has recently shared some strategies that could help alleviate the issue:

Improved working conditions

Many drivers complain about long hours, low pay, and poor working conditions. Improving working conditions, such as reducing hours and increasing pay, could help attract more people to the industry.

Recruiting and training programs

More efforts should be made to recruit and train new drivers, especially among younger generations. This could include apprenticeships, financial incentives, and outreach to schools and universities to promote the trucking industry as a career choice.

Improving cross-border regulations

Simplifying cross-border regulations and procedures could help make it easier for foreign drivers to work in different countries and address the shortage in specific regions.
