Youtube is a great entertainment resource, we've all been there. But business can also use it as a great resource for skill sharing and awareness-building.

To this end, the HSA have uploaded and organised many useful videos on managing vehicle-related risks.

The new HSA Youtube channel complements other HSA efforts in improving workplace safety, such as information sheets on safely reversing or forklift safety techniques from the Vehicles at Work section of their website.

The Youtube videos go from basic pre-drive checks, risk assessment, road safety law, pedestrian safety and contingency response in the case of an accident.

While risks can never be removed from operating vehicles, they can be mitigated and controlled.

The free safety management resources available from the HSA provide a framework to approach the challenges of vehicle safety.

Employers have a responsibility not just to their employees but to their business to reduce risk wherever possible.

Nobody wants the worse-case scenario to arise on their shift. Even with the best will in the world, in a collision between a heavy working vehicle and a human being, there can be only one winner.

The devil is in the details, but there are many useful techniques suggested in the comprehensive HSA videos and it's worth everybody's time to watch them – they're short and sweet.

"Safety dominance" is the aim here, and with half of workplace deaths arising from incidents involving vehicles, it's a commendable goal.
